130 lb-ft of torque at 2k rpm is equal to about 40-45 horsepower, it's nothing like my miata at 7k, and furthermore, it's not an impressive figure by itself. NA miata engines are built for hosrepower, not torque. The unfortunate reality is that without a v8 swap, no miata is going to break its tires loose with a tap of the throttle at 2k rpm.

The 1.8l only gained like 15 hp or so over the 1.6. The biggest difference is the mid range torque that gives you the ability to live a little quicker without having to ring the engine out as much as the 1.6.
